Saying goodbye well is incredibly important.
January 29 2025
A trainer once told me that how you look back on something is 50% shaped by the experience itself — and 50% by how it ended.
That may sound like a bold number, but anyone who’s been through a painful breakup – with a partner or a friend – knows how true it feels. A good relationship with a bad ending often leaves a bitter aftertaste.
Not saying goodbye at all can have the same effect. A friend who ghosted you, or a collaboration where you never got to thank the people who made a difference – those things linger. They stay open, unresolved.
At work, it's no different. That’s why we consciously take time to say goodbye. We’ve even turned it into a little ritual. If something was good, it deserves to be cherished.
Yesterday, we said goodbye to our amazing interns, Luna Plet and Lisa Harmusial – smart, creative, and both incredibly kind.
We shared photos from their time with us, and each team member wrote something personal about how much we appreciated them. I believe things like that should be said more often.
Of course, a proper send-off includes drinks, a game of ping pong, and a thoughtful gift. And Luna and Lisa surprised us with a beautiful painting – thank you so much!
This is one of the things we value at The Social Handshake - B Corp. Just like #LoonGift, it contributes to a warm and caring #cultuur.
And we’re always open to inspiration –
