In the “Do Good Talks” we put people in the spotlight. People who, in their own way, commit towards a better world. Because together we can achieve more; and because doing good leads to doing more good.

Since this year, Caroline Samsom has been supporting charities through Payroll Giving at H20

Why did you choose Payroll Giving to support charities?

"Since this year, I've been working at H2O, and when I started here, I was asked if I wanted to participate in Payroll Giving. That's when I started to delve into the concept. It really appealed to me, partly because H2O doubles my contribution, making the impact of my donation twice as large. I'm fortunate to have a good home life, but I'm aware that not everyone is blessed with such a situation. That's why I want to do something for others. This is one of the reasons I started giving through Payroll Giving."

How did you choose your charities?

“Together with my husband, we chose charities and themes that truly touch us. Since his father passed away from cancer, this is a theme that naturally lies close to his heart. For this reason, we decided to give to the Female Cancer Foundation. In addition, I personally find the theme ‘Emergency aid and refugees’ important and very current. Especially when you consider that more than 10% of the world's population is on the run. When I see mothers putting their children in a boat to have a better life, it deeply moves me. I think it is very important that they also find a warm welcome and a home.”

What do you hope to achieve with your Payroll Giving?

“By giving through the Max Impact option of Payroll Giving, I can make a structural impact. So, I give to my chosen charities for 5 years. The themes associated with our charities, such as cancer and refugees, will not be resolved today or tomorrow. By giving for a longer time through Max Impact, I enable the charities to plan better and make more targeted decisions on how to best use their resources to achieve their goals. Giving in this way is very easy; because it is directly deducted from your salary, you no longer have to worry about it. For me, it's also a way to stay committed. In addition to Payroll Giving's Max Impact, I also donate through church, and through this combination, I can respond well to current issues and maximize my impact.”

Is it true that, next to this, you also do volunteer work?

“That's correct, even though I have 4 children and work 32 hours a week, I also do volunteer work. About once a month, I go to a nursing home with my youngest daughter, who is two years old. We then visit the elderly to say hello, listen to their stories, and have a chat. I hope that someone will do the same for me when I'm their age. Because I believe that if we all give just a little more of ourselves, the world becomes so much more beautiful.”

Caroline supports charities easily and structurally via Payroll Giving from The Social Handshake. Just like Caroline, you can opt for the Max Impact option or go for the flexible option, Max Flex. H20 offers all employees this opportunity and doubles all donations. Do you also want to participate in Payroll Giving? Register via your employer's unique page.
